Huntsville City Hall and municipal offices will close Friday, Jan. 19. Notices will be sent to the public via this website, City Alerts system, local media, and City of Huntsville social media.
Access Paratransit will continue to provide door-to-door service.
MUNICIPAL COURT
The City of Huntsville Municipal Court is closed. Arraignments will be rescheduled next week. More information here.
ROAD CONDITIONS AND ALERTS
Road conditions and closures will be publicized through the local media and the City of Huntsville’s social media pages. Follow the Huntsville Police Department on Twitter for the timeliest updates.
Huntsville Police Department, in conjunction with the Emergency Operations Center, monitors local city roadways.
The Alabama Department of Transportation monitors state and federal highways including Highway 231 (Memorial Parkway), Highway 72 (University Drive), Highway 431 (Governor’s Drive), and I-565. For real-time road conditions, the Alabama Department of Transportation encourages individuals to visit algotraffic.com.
Motorists are encouraged to stay off the roads in icy conditions.
HUNTSVILLE TRANSIT
Orbit will remain closed Friday, Jan. 19, and Saturday, Jan. 20. Access will continue to pickup dialysis patients. Updates are posted HERE.
GARBAGE PICK-UP
Garbage service is on weather delay. Residential pick-up resumes on Monday, Jan. 22, but pick-ups will be delayed in some areas until roads are free of ice. Please leave your green garbage carts curbside until Sanitation can pick them up.

Plan ahead for severe weather events by following tips from our Emergency Management Agency.
WARMING SHELTERS
Warming shelters are open for anyone who needs temporary shelter from the elements.
- The Downtown Rescue Mission (1400 Evangel Drive) continues to operate 24-7. Other shelter hours are:
- Salvation Army (305 Seminole Drive): The shelter will operate through Sunday, Jan. 21. Daytime hours are 7:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. (call 256-536-8876). Overnight hours are 6 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. (call 256-536-9147).
- Community Warming Center – The Livin’ Room (2820 Governors Drive): Opens Friday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m. and will remain open until 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 21. Call 256-427-5400 or rvealeby@nativity-hsv.org.
If the City is open, Huntsville Transit will provide transportation to warming centers. If the City is closed, call the Huntsville Police non-emergency number, 256-722-7100.
PET CARE
Huntsville Animal Services reminds pet owners to take extra care of their furry friends. Pets should be brought indoors. If that is not possible, extra warm bedding and a heat lamp should be provided. More information here.
