Roadway Improvement Projects
Construction contract was awarded to Grayson Carter and Son Contracting in January 2024, and construction began in April 2024. Drainage installation is complete, and grading and concrete work are approximately 90% complete. Paving and median island construction will begin after the grading is complete. Single lane closures are being utilized during off peak hours while contractors are working. Project is anticipated to be complete by the Spring of 2025 depending upon weather and utility conflicts.

Rogers Group was awarded the construction contract in December 2023. Work is anticipated to begin in January 2024 and take approximately nine months to complete, depending upon weather and utility conflicts.

The City is responsible for the next phase of construction on Winchester Road. This phase contains 2.25 miles of new five-lane roadway to connect to the recently completed portion constructed by the County. The right-of-way acquisition schedule continues to change due to new development/ownership along this growth corridor. Any changes to properties within this area require new legal descriptions and appraisals. Acquisition should be complete by summer 2025. Utility relocations will begin, and construction will start immediately after. The project is anticipated to take 18-24 months to complete construction. Once complete, Winchester Road will be five lanes for approximately nine (9) miles from Pulaski Pike to Bell Factory Road.

The roadway construction was let by ALDOT in September 2023. The contract was awarded to the low bidder, Rogers Group Inc. The roadway construction will be performed with a detour route in place for motorists to use Trademark Drive to maintain two-way traffic during construction. Construction began in April 2024 with the detour route put in place on April 1. Construction is currently underway and will take approximately two years to complete, weather permitting.

The City of Huntsville awarded a contract to Wiregrass Construction Company on Nov. 2, 2023, to construct the Northern Bypass. Construction began in mid-November 2023 with an estimated construction time of three years, weather permitting. This will include 1 mile of road improvements along U.S. 231 (Memorial Parkway) to accommodate the new intersection. The construction total for the project is $34,695,598.29 with 498 working days to complete the work. Approximately 43% total time has been charged, and the project is approximately 21% complete. Anticipated completion for the project is the end of 2026, weather permitting.
The site has been cleared, and construction on three of the four bridge culverts is complete. Blasting is occurring regularly on the western end of the project near Northgate Drive. Gas relocation is complete. Water, sewer, electric and communication relocations are also underway. Sitework, to include grading and drainage installation, is progressing on both sides of Memorial Parkway and working west along Bob Wade Lane. There will be single lane closures along the Parkway as work progresses to widen Memorial Parkway to accommodate the new intersection. Anticipate traffic shifts as work progresses with the new signal at Memorial Parkway and the Northern Bypass being installed in the spring of 2025. The existing signal at Memorial Parkway and Bob Wade Lane will also be removed when the new signal is installed.
