Citizens Police Academy
The Huntsville Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy offers participants an in-depth look at HPD operations, providing firsthand insight into the culture, organization and practices of law enforcement. This program fosters meaningful interaction between citizens and law enforcement officers, promoting understanding and engagement. Please note that the Citizens Police Academy is a volunteer program designed to educate community members about law enforcement and the Huntsville Police Department; it is not an offer of employment.
The academy is a nine-week program that involves classroom and interactive instruction. During our 2025 Citizen Academy, students will meet every Tuesday from April 29 until July 1 from 6-9 p.m.

PARTICIPANT REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 19 years of age
- Must be a resident, college student or business owner in the City of Huntsville
- No prior felony convictions
- No outstanding warrants
- No pending criminal cases
Cameras, recording devices and weapons (including those carried with a pistol permit) are strictly prohibited while attending the Huntsville Citizens Police Academy. Attendees are required to wear appropriate attire, maintain a neat and clean appearance and adhere to a business casual dress code.
