Major Crimes Unit arrest

Published on September 4, 2024

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) charged a 16-year-old with capital murder after a shooting on Max Luther Drive at 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 3.

An HPD officer responded to Huntsville Hospital after three gunshot victims arrived for treatment. One of the victims died at the hospital. Another victim remains in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The responding officer learned the shooting involved juveniles in two vehicles on Max Luther Drive just west of Washington Street. Officers dispatched to the scene also recovered ballistic evidence.

Less than two hours later, the vehicle suspected in the incident was located. The two juvenile occupants were detained and interviewed. One was charged with capital murder and the other was released.

Major Crimes Unit investigators believe the incident involves an ongoing dispute between the juveniles that began before Sept. 3.

On the day of the shooting, the victims were followed from the area of Blue Spring Road and Sparkman Drive to Max Luther Drive where the shooting occurred.

The investigations continues and additional arrests are expected.
