Help document, preserve Huntsville’s Black history during Preservation Month event

The City of Huntsville invites citizens to a unique event focused on identifying, documenting and preserving our community’s Black history. Bicyclists who encounter fatigue or inclement weather can hitch a free ride on an Orbit shuttle through Friday. The “Try Transit” promotion is part of several planned events recognizing Bike Month. The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) has charged Devone Edward Modacure, 48, with murder following a shooting incident on Sunday, May 7. HPD officers responded to the 4100 block of Knight Road around 4:40 p.m. and found Harrison Sonny Hayes, 57, with gunshot wounds. Hayes was pronounced dead at the scene.
